Fouetté Cardigan Test Knitters

Test knitters helped make the pattern more knitter friendly. To name a few: the lines within the charts are now a bit bolder (something I’ve added into my style guide for all future patterns), additional hyperlinks were added leading to the special techniques section as necessary, additional stitch counts were added to confirm the shaping in the stockinette sections, and some instructions were added or rewritten for additional clarity.

Fit wise, the most common modification was adding length in the body, as it is very cropped as written.

Without further ado, here are some of the stunning Fouetté Cardigan test knitters.

Anabel (@Ana_crafts_and_books)

Size 7.

Knit in Polo&Co Changthang DK  (50% Merino, 50% Yak). DK weight.

Anabel added 1 pattern repeat to the body.

”This cardigan will make a very good basic for this fall with a very modern cut but with a fairly timeless cable design. The pattern still requires a little attention to be able to follow the different cable patterns and not make mistakes but the explanations are really very very very clear you just have to let yourself be carried away by the pattern. There are many details that are well thought out like the cable on the shoulder line which continues on the sleeve to leave room for the new pattern.”

Céline (@celines_crafts)

Size 4.

Knit in Knitting For Olive Merino (100% Merino) held with CaMaRose Midnatssol (54% Alpaca, 36% Tencel, 10% Merino). Fingering weight + Lace weight fluff.

Céline worked slightly less waist shaping than written in the pattern.

Kamilla (@Kamilla_hansen_94)

Size 7.

Knit in SmukSak Alpaca X Merino (50% Baby Alpaca, 50% Merino). DK weight.

Kamilla lengthened the body by half a lace repeat.

”Even if it looks like a difficult pattern it's very easy to knit. Everything is written row by row. The fit is great but note that its a cropped cardigan. Even so Céline has included ways to modify the cardigan to your preference. And when you are done you have the most beautiful cardigan to wear I have got a lot of compliments on mine and I love it. Already considering to make my second in some other yarn. Give it a go! You won't be disappointed”

Katarina (@Kcirnski)

Size 5.

Knit in Lana Grossa Cool Wool Baby (100% Merino) held with Lana Grossa Bella (35% Cotton, 25% Baby Alpaca, 30% Nylon, 10% Virgin Wool). Fingering weight + Sport weight fluff.

No modifications.

“Amazing fit, thought out construction and clear, concisely written pattern!”

Andrea (@natyk.nits)

Size 2.

Knit in Rico Designs Creative Melange Aran Wonderball (51% Wool, 49% Nylon). Aran weight.

No modifications.

“It is a beautiful cardigan, the pattern is very well explained, it has different options to adjust the garment to your liking and the result is elegant and delicate.”

Imani (@imaknits_)

Size 8.

Knit in Drops Alpaca (100% Alpaca) held with Malabrigo Lace Merino (100% Merino). Sport weight + Lace weight.

No modifications.

“I absolutely love this cardigan! It really was a labour of love, but with the easy to follow pattern, there is absolutely no difficulty!
It took me a long time to make but I really enjoyed every stitch and every shape I was making, so much so that I am already picturing another Fouetté cardigan in my future🩷”

Ella (@handmade_by_macramella)

Size 7.

Knit in Drops Baby Merino (100% Merino) held with Mohair. Sport weight + Lace weight fluff.

Ela added 1 repeat of the lace chart to the body, and shortened the hem ribbing to 5.5 cm (instead of 6.5 cm).

“It's one of those patterns that will make you entertained while knitting, teaching you new things while at the same time providing thorough instructions. It's a pleasure to knit due to an easy-to-follow pattern and well thought-out details that make it fit your body perfectly. The pattern provides a couple of suggestions how to modify your knit to your preferences.
However, my greatest recommendation is that if I was to knit one cardigan until my final days, I would pick this pattern. I feel so proud to have knitted something so gorgeous!”

Nicole (@WoolandFabricShop)

Size 6.

Knit in Desert Panda Fiber Arts Squishy Sock (85% Wool, 15% Nylon) held with Knit Picks Aloft (72% Mohair, 28% Silk). Fingering weight + Lace weight fluff.

Nicole used a larger ribbing needle at the hem to prevent it from cinching in.

“This a cozy, more fitted cardigan with some really beautiful detailing. Pattern is well written and clear, would be good for an adventurous beginner and up. Would recommend focusing on sleeve decreases and shoulder pick up areas (i.e. maybe don't be distracted by a show during those parts)”

Senéad (@seneadkailyn)

Size 1.

Knit in Heirloom Merino Fleck (100% Merino Wool). DK weight.

No modifications.

“This cardigan is super engaging to knit, but well worth the effort for the finished fit and intricate design details. So much of thought has gone into every detail of this design. It’s simply exquisite and will definitely be a favourite of mine for years to come.”

Alex (@Knot.tired)

Size 3.

Knit in Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool (100% Wool). Aran weight.

No modifications.

“If you’re looking for a cropped, bomber-style, cabled cardi with clear instructions then look no further! With sleeve style options and length adjustment instructions, written and charted instructions, clear diagrams and schematics you can’t go wrong with the Fouetté Cardigan! For a more jacket-style fabric try getting gauge with one strand of heavier weight yarn or, for more drape and a softer feel, use the recommended fingering and fluff combination!”

Keriann (@RunningAmuckDesigns)

Size 2.

Knit in Sassy Black Yarns Baby Alpaca (100% Baby Alpaca) held with Knomad Suri Fluff. Fingering weight + Lace weight fluff.

No modifications.

“Celine is so thoughtful with her designs. This cardigan is so well thought out. I love how the cables cross in opposite directions on either side. And the double knit button band is such a clean finish. My cardigan looks so professional thanks to all of the specific design elements incorporated in the pattern.”

Jane (@jwmakes)

Size 2.

Knit in Alize Superwash Artisan (75% Wool, 25% Nylon) held with Alize Kid Mohair. Fingering weight + Lace weight fluff.

Jane added 1.5 cm of ribbing to the cuffs to match the length of the hem ribbing.

“This is the perfect cropped cable cardigan. I love it, my family loves it, and I've gotten so many compliments on the cardigan. The main cable on this pattern does need some getting used to (no mindless knitting, at least for me), but it is so worth it. You can always count on Celine to get patterns that fit you perfectly.”

Katie (@katie.knits_)

Size 4.

Knit in Botanical Yarns 4ply (85% Merino, 15% Donegal) held with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk. Fingering weight + Lace weight fluff.

Katie added 1/2 repeat to the body.

“I am in love with the Fouetté cardigan! It is a timeless classic which will go with everything and was so much fun to knit. I adore the combination of cables and lace. The pattern was clear and easy to follow, from the construction overview giving you an idea of how everything would come together, to having both written and charted instructions. Every detail is so well thought through and the finished item is so professional looking. I recommend everyone knits themselves a Fouetté.”

Caitlin (@ccallen5)

Size 1.

Knit in Explorer Knits Rockies DK (100% Merino). DK weight.

Caitlin added 1.5 repeats of the lace repeat to the body.

“I love the combo of the cables and eyelet sections! The pattern was laid out well and I am very happy with the fit. Wardrobe stable for sure!”

Additional Thoughts

Here’s what a one more tester knitter had to say:

"Many times while knitting I stopped to marvel at how beautifully well designed it is. The thoughtful shaping in the shoulders, the arms, the waist, all while maintaining the cable details is really amazing. The pattern provides row by row instructions for these rows that could be harder to keep track, so that you don’t have to figure it out yourself. This is a beautifully detailed and thoughtful cozy cardigan!” -Victoria H,  Size 6.
