Fouetté Socks - Knitting Pattern
Fouetté Socks - Knitting Pattern
Share
Fancy some cabled socks with an interesting heel construction? Look no further than the Fouetté Socks. These beauties feature a cable and lace motif that blend beautifully into the modified sweet tomato heel. The cables rest on a bed of stockinette for a really elegant finish.
Construction:
Worked cuff down with a modified sweet tomato heel, and an anatomical toe.
There is a right sock and a left sock. All cables in the left sock lean to the left, all cables in the right sock lean to the right.
This pattern has been professionally tech edited by Hannah Middleton, and has been test knitted.
Details
Sizing
6 sizes: 42, 50, (58, 66) {74, 82} stitches
Finished Sock Circumference: 4.75”, 5.5”, (6.5”, 7.25”) {8.25”, 9”} / 11.5 cm, 14 cm, (16 cm, 18.5 cm) {20.5 cm, 23 cm}
The socks are meant to be 10% smaller in circumference than your actual foot. Measure around the widest part of your foot, and multiply by .9 for the ideal sock circumference.
Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference. If between sizes, size down. You can also change needle sizes to get a different gauge that will get you closer to your ideal sock circumference.
See schematic and size chart in photos for more detailed measurements.
Sample is 74 stitches, to fit an 8.75” / 22 cm foot circumference.
Gauge
9 stitches in 1” / 2.5 cm, in stockinette, after blocking.
Needles & Notions
US 1 / 2.25 mm 32” / 80 cm circular needles, or preferred sock needles.
Pattern is easiest to follow using magic loop, but can be adapted to small circulars or DPNs. I recommend using Magic Loop for the toes.
5 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors, 2 cable needles, a tape measure or sock ruler.
Yardage
Schachenmayr Regia 4-fädig 4 ply 1 skein (459 yards / 420 meters per 100 g), 75% Superwash Wool, 25% Polyamide, in the color ‘1992 Off White’.
OR 115, 138, (267, 315) {361, 404} yards / 105, 126, (244, 289) {330, 369} meters of comparable light fingering weight sock yarn.
Yardage needed will vary based on how long the foot is knit. Estimates are based on standard foot lengths for given circumferences.
