The Gaufrette is a DK weight compound raglan with a classic silhouette, neck shaping, optional bust darts, two views, three collar options, and 2x2 trim. All the trim joins seamlessly with the stitch pattern and the shaping in all sizes.

Construction:
Worked top down seamlessly, the front neck is shaped flat, after which the yoke, body and sleeves are worked in the round. Finally the collar is picked up and knit.

View A (Navy): A stockinette body and sleeves.

View B (Cream + Pink): A stockinette body with textured sleeves and a center front neckline detail.

Collar options: Crew neck (Navy), Mock neck (Pink), Folder collar (Cream).

Pattern includes modification guidelines for adding waist or hip shaping, a split hem, and altering bicep circumference.

Difficulty: Intermediate

As with all my size inclusive garment patterns, you can use the code ANTIFATTAX to get 20% off the pattern, intended for sizes 6-9 to help combat the extra costs incurred by knitting larger sizes.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited by Kephren Pritchett, and has been test knitted.

Sizing

I recommend choosing a size based on your upper chest measurement.

Sizes 1-9, intended to fit a 31”, 34.25”, 37.5”, (40.75”, 44”, 47.35”) {50.5”, 53.75”, 57”} / 77.5 cm, 85.5 cm, 94 cm, (102 cm, 110 cm, 118 cm, 126.5 cm, 134.5 cm, 142.5 cm upper chest measurement and a 30”, 34”, 38”, (42”, 46”, 50”) {54”, 58”, 62”} / 75 cm, 85 cm, 95 cm, (105 cm, 115 cm, 125 cm) {135 cm, 145 cm, 155 cm} full bust measurement.

Please see the size chart and schematic in the photos for garment measurements. Meant to be worn with 7” / 17.5 cm of positive ease at the full bust.

Gauge

23 sts and 38 rows in 4” / 10 cm on (Larger) needles in stockinette after blocking.

28 stitches and 40 rows in 4” / 10 cm in 2x2 ribbing on (Smaller) needles, after blocking.

This is a tight row gauge, which is why alternate instructions are provided for 28 rows and 33 rows. Swatch to meet stitch gauge, then measure the row gauge of your blocked swatch and follow the row gauge instructions that match it most closely.

The alternate yoke instructions require less yarn, see yardage for details.

Needles & Notions

(Larger) US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge after blocking.

(Smaller) US 1.5 / 2.5 mm circular needles for the ribbed hem, or size needed to obtain ribbing gauge.

10 stitch markers, several removable markers, darning needle, scissors, tape measure, waste yarn for putting stitches on hold.

Yardage

Any sport to DK weight yarn that meets gauge will do nicely. A DK weight yarn will create a denser fabric, with more structure and body. A sport weight yarn will result in a drapier fabric.

The navy sample is DK weight 70% Wool 30% Cashmere from a thrifted sweater. A fingering + lace weight mohair or suri would give a similar density.

The cream sample is Knitting for Olive Merino in “Cloud” held together with Knitting for Olive Compatible Cashmere in “Cream”. This is closer to sport weight than DK weight.

The pink sample is a light DK, 100% Cashmere, also from a thrifted sweater.

If using a single strand, use the fingering weight yardage as a guide.

38 row yardage:
1237, 1366, 1479, (1611, 1726, 1879) {2029, 2171, 2309} yards / 1132, 1251, 1354, (1475, 1581, 1721) {1858, 1989, 2115} meters of fingering weight yarn.

Held together with:

1161, 1282, 1388, (1512, 1620, 1764) {1905, 2038, 2168} yards / 1059, 1169, 1266, (1379, 1478, 1609) {1737, 1859, 1977} meters of lace weight yarn.

33 row yardage:
1121, 1235, 1349, (1458, 1576, 1688) {1845, 1957, 2072} yards / 1027, 1131, 1236, (1335, 1443, 1546) {1689, 1793, 1897} meters of fingering weight yarn.

Held together with:

1052, 1159, 1267, (1368, 1479, 1585) {1732, 1837, 1945} yards / 960, 1057, 1155, (1248, 1349, 1446) {1580, 1676, 1774} meters of lace weight yarn.
