Cozy Colowork? YES please. This modified drop shoulder features a cozy fit with generous ease, lengthy sleeves, and a bold colorwork motif. The comfortable crew neck is finished with a folded collar, which is attached with a crochet hook for a beautiful and stretchy finish. The shoulders and sleeve cap are carefully shaped with short rows for improved fit. All the colorwork is knit in the round, making for a very fun knit.
Construction:
Start by casting on stitches for the back, work back shoulder shaping with short rows, and then work gentle armhole shaping. The smaller sizes will work decreases, while the larger sizes work increases. Pick up stitches for the fronts, again work some shoulder shaping with short rows, work increases to shape the neckline, and cast on stitches at the center front to join the fronts. The front armholes are shaped just like the back armholes. Stitches are cast on for the underarms, and the body is knit in the round. The second color is joined and colorwork begins. The background color transitions to the second color during the colorwork. The body is then knit a bit longer in stockinette, and is finished with a ribbed hem.
As for the sleeves, stitches are picked up around the armholes, a small sleeve cap is worked, and then the colorwork starts for the sleeve. Once it is finished decreases are worked to taper the sleeve, and it’s finished with a ribbed cuff.
Stitches are picked up along the neckline, and the collar trim is worked. This features a folded collar, attached with a crochet hook.
Difficulty: Intermediate
All the shaping happens in stockinette portions of the garment, and all the colorwork is knit in the round. The longest floats are infrequent, and are only 7-8 stitches long (8 for the motif without hearts). The pattern indicates where to catch the floats, and indicates where the switch color dominance. This is a great first colorwork garment project.
