Plumule Cardigan - Knitting Pattern
Plumule Cardigan - Knitting Pattern
Share
Do you like cardigans? Do you like big pockets? Perhaps, you even like seed stitch! The Plumule cardigan is an easy addition to any wardrobe. It’s convenient to throw on over just about anything as a house coat, with the bracelet length sleeves making it particularly practical for chore days. The careful shoulder shaping on both the back and the front of the cardigan ensures it won’t slip off your shoulders.
Construction: Knit top down, with shoulder short row shaping, a contiguous neckband, short row sleeve caps, bracelet length sleeves, and DEEP pockets! Pattern includes many photos and video links to help with the pocket construction. The only sewing involved is tacking down the sides of the pockets, which is done before knitting is completed.
Difficulty: Intermediate

Details
Sizing
Plumule is meant to be worn with 5” / 12.5 cm of positive ease at the bust.
However, I recommend choosing the size with the cross shoulder measurement closest to your own measurement. Measure from shoulder bone to shoulder bone, not including the ball of your arm.
See size chart and schematic in photos.
Sample is size 2 with pockets. Worn with ~5” / 12.5 cm of positive ease at the bust, ~2” / 7.5 cm of positive ease at the bicep.
Gauge
18.5 stitches and 26 rows in 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on (Larger) needles, after blocking.
Needles & Notions
(Larger) US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge after blocking.
(Smaller) US 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles for the seed stitch hem and cuffs, or 2 sizes smaller than needles needed to obtain gauge.
A few stitch markers (including several removable ones), darning needle, scissors, tape measure, waste yarn for putting sts on hold.
Yardage
Explorer Knits + Fibers Cashmere DK 5, 5, 6, (6, 7, 7), {8, 9, 9} skeins (231 yards / 211 meters per 100 g).
OR 1021, 1125, 1233, (1341, 1442, 1581) {1714, 1849, 1959} yards / 932, 1028, 1126, (1225, 1317, 1444) {1565, 1689, 1789} meters of comparable DK or worsted weight yarn. The yarn I used is a very plump DK, I would not recommend using a light DK.
If you would like to use a contrast color for the pocket lining extensions, you will need 59 yards / 54 meters of the contrast color.
