A sweet textured addition to the fan favorite Kite Heel sock patterns. The Sweet Dot Socks feature dot stitch stripes intersected by little cables that run all the way down to the toe. The stitch pattern is easy to memorize, and make for a very fun knit, especially with the stripes (just one more stripe!). Meanwhile, the Kite Heel is a fantastic heel for knitters that love the fit of a heel flap and gusset, but don’t like picking up stitches, or for knitters whose insteps are left stretched thin by short row heels. It’s intuitive, fun to knit, hugs the heel, and is aesthetically pleasing. Plus, it’s easy to modify to your foot shape.

Construction: The Sweet Dot Socks feature a seamlessly integrated Kite Heel. Worked cuff down, with a rounded wedge toe.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate. Slightly more challenging than the vanilla version due to the texture and cabling.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited by Melissa Metzbower, and has been test knitted.

Sizing

8 sizes: 34, 42, 50, (58, 66, 74) {82, 90} stitches

The socks are meant to be 14% smaller in circumference than your actual foot. Measure around the widest part of your foot, and multiply by .86 for the ideal sock circumference.

Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference. If between sizes, size down. If you prefer less negative ease, the heel will need to be made smaller, or it will end up too loose. The modifications guidelines walk you through how to do this.

Finished Sock Circumference: 4”, 5”, 6”, (6.75”, 7.75”, 8.75”) {9.75” 10.5”} / 10 cm, 12.5 cm, 14.5 cm, (17 cm, 19.5 cm, 22 cm) {24 cm, 26.5 cm}

Please see the size chart and schematic in the photos for more details.

This pattern is written to work with a variety of gauges, so that you can use anything from light fingering to DK weight yarn.

Start by choosing your yarn and needle combination, then count your stitches per 1” / 2.5 cm. If it’s not 8.5 stitches, use the alternate gauge tables. Find your stitches per 1” / 2.5 cm in the grey column, follow that row across to see the sock circumference of each size at your gauge.

Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference.

Gauge

8.5 stitches in 1” / 2.5 cm, in stockinette, after blocking.

Pattern can be worked at different gauges, from 5.5 to 10 sts per 1” / 2.5 cm. See alternate gauge tables.

Needles & Notions

US 1 / 2.25 mm small circular needles, or needles that give you a fabric you like with the yarn you’re using.

Pattern is written for small circulars, but includes diagrams for adapting to Magic Loop or DPNs. I recommend using Magic Loop for the toes.

4 stitch markers, darning needle, cable needle, scissors, a tape measure or sock ruler.

Yardage

The pattern is written in a light fingering weight yarn gauge, but can be knit in anything up to DK weight yarn.

Cascade Yarns Heritage 1, 1, 1, (1, 1, 1) {2, 2} skein(s) (437 yards / 400 meters per 100 g), 75% Merino, 25% Nylon, in the color ‘Tutu’.

OR 145, 188, 250, (294, 348, 401) {463, 522} yards / 133, 172, 229, (269, 318, 368) {424, 478} meters of comparable light fingering weight sock yarn.

Yardage needed will vary based on yarn chosen and size knit, as well as how long the leg and foot are knit. Estimates are based on standard foot lengths for the given circumferences at pattern gauge.
