The True Classic Hat features alternating simple and braided cables, with a deep 2x2 folded brim, and a close fitting silhouette. The cables gradually become smaller on the crown, for a beautiful and uninterrupted pattern. Knit with DK weight yarn, this hat knits up quickly, and with 5 sizes, makes a beautiful gift for anyone.
Construction:
Knit bottom up. Start with the brim, then transition into the body of the hat. Pattern includes suggested lengths, but you can add or remove repeats to modify the length. Finally decreases are worked to shape the crown.
Difficulty: Adventurous Beginner.

Sizing
Graded to fit toddlers to large adults.
I recommend choosing a size that is 10% smaller than the actual head measurement. If between sizes, size down.
Sizes 1-5, intended to fit a head with a head circumference of 17.5”, 21”, {24.75”, 28”, 31.75”} / 44 cm, 53 cm, {61.5 cm, 70.5 cm, 79.5 cm}
Finished hat circumference:
15.75”, 19”, {22.25”, 25.25”, 28.5”} / 39.5 cm, 47.5 cm, {55.5 cm, 63.5 cm, 71.5 cm}
Please see the size chart and schematic in the photos for more detailed measurements.
Solid sample is worn with 10% negative ease. Variegated sample is worn with 12% negative ease by me, and 9% negative ease by my son.
I knit the brim of the variegated sample to half the length written in pattern, and knit the body of the hat one repeat longer, see photo of it not folded up.
