Another fantastic Kite Heel sock, this time all in stockinette. This is a wonderful heel if you like the fit of a heel flap and gusset, but don’t like picking up stitches, or if short row heels leave your insteps stretched thin. It’s intuitive and fun to knit, hugs the heel, and is aesthetically pleasing.
Construction: The Vanille Kite Heel socks feature a seamlessly integrated Kite Heel. Worked cuff down, with a rounded wedge toe.

Sizing
8 sizes: 34, 42, 50, (58, 66, 74) {82, 90} stitches
The socks are meant to be 14% smaller in circumference than your actual foot. Measure around the widest part of your foot, and multiply by .86 for the ideal sock circumference.
Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference. If between sizes, size down. If you prefer less negative ease, the heel will need to be made smaller, or it will end up too loose. The modifications guidelines walk you through how to do this.

This pattern is written to work with a variety of gauges, so that you can use anything from fingering to DK weight yarn. Start by choosing your yarn and needle combination, then count your stitches per 1” / 2.5 cm. If it’s not 8.5 stitches, use the alternate gauge tables. Find your stitches per 1” / 2.5 cm in the grey column, follow that row across to see the sock circumference of each size at your gauge.
Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference.

8.5 stitches in 1” / 2.5 cm, in stockinette, after blocking.
Pattern can be worked at different gauges.
Needles & Notions
US 1 / 2.25 mm small circular needles, or needles that give you a fabric you like with the yarn you’re using.
Pattern is written for small circulars, but can be adapted to Magic Loop or DPNs. I recommend using Magic Loop for the toes.
3 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors, a tape measure or sock ruler.

The pattern is written in a fingering weight yarn gauge, but they can be knit in light fingering to DK weight yarn.
MC: Salty Blonde Fine Fibers 2 ply Sock 1, 1, 1, (1, 1, 1) {2, 2} skein(s) (400 yards / 366 meters per 100 g), 80% Merino, 20% Nylon, in the color ‘Blue Dancers’.
OR 131, 167, 227, (266, 317, 364) {424, 469} yards / 120, 153, 208, (244, 290, 333) {388, 429} meters of comparable fingering weight sock yarn.

Yardage needed will vary based on yarn chosen and gauge, as well as how long the leg and foot are knit. Estimates are based on standard foot lengths for given circumferences.
