This is a more robust version of the Bust Dart Calculator, specialized in textured knits. This Google Sheet will generate horizontal bust dart instructions for you, for patterns with an allover texture, or distinct patterned columns.
You’ll receive a PDF with tips / guidelines for working short rows in texture, which will also include the link to the google sheet calculator.
There are 5 sheets:
- Introduction - This gives thorough instructions on how to use the calculator
- Imperial: Allover texture - The sheet to use if you prefer to work in inches and want to add short rows to an allover textured pattern (i.e. moss stitch)
- Metric: Allover texture - The sheet to use if you prefer to work in centimeters and want to add short rows to an allover textured pattern
- Imperial: Panels / Ribbing - The sheet to use if you prefer to work in inches and the garment has clear patterned panels, with columns between that can be used to disguise the short rows (i.e. purl columns between cables)
- Metric: Panels / Ribbing - The sheet to use if you prefer to work in centimeters and the garment has clear patterned panels, with columns between that can be used to disguise the short rows (i.e. purl columns between cables)
The calculator sheets have green cells where you’ll need to input things like your gauge and how much depth you want to add. The calculator will then generate instructions based on your inputs. It includes instructions for both top down and bottom up knitting.
The calculator uses German short rows, but you can substitute your preferred method.
Note: This calculator gives instructions for textured garments. If you are working a stockinette garment, you will want to use the regular Bust Dart Calculator.
